LIFE: Family Style: Thanksgiving Sweets
The holiday season is upon us and Meg and I love to spend it with family. So we are starting a new series this holiday season, called ‘Family Style’ sharing our experiences with our families and the joy of each and every tradition. Luckily our families live close enough that it isn’t much of a problem to spend a weekend with them. So this past weekend we joined in the annual Ewertz, McClellan, Service, Self Thanksgiving candy cook-off. I don’t know that there is a winner as much as their is a whole weekend of fun and family! We wanted to share this with all of you and a recipe for the famous Auntie P Peanut Butter Balls! Enjoy!
Chocolate cover pretzels in the making…you can gain weight by just looking at this stuff but it’s still sooooo good!
A selection of peanut brittle, chocolate covered pretzels and peanut butter balls. Too much fun! Meg is quite the joker and goof when you get her around her family. She leads the pack in wild ideas!
There is nothing like all the mom’s and daughters of the family getting together and sharing wisdom and laughter.
Grandma B doing her thing, the best peanut brittle north of Oklahoma!
Another round of chocolate covered pretzels anyone?
Can I lick the bowl? Pleeeeaaaaassseee?
More amazing chefs, guess who in the middle…yep our Hawaiian Farm Girl back from the Big Island! Oh and if you hadn’t noticed Green Couch Design provided the aprons from our new kitchen line. Peace Love and Cookie Dough this holiday season!
The mom’s sharing a joke I think…at my expense.
Now for the recipe!
Auntie P’s Peanut Butter Balls (pictured above)
1 stick butter
2 c. Rice Krispies
3 c. powdered sugar
1 (6 oz.) bag chocolate chips
1/2 c. paraffin
Finally we finished all the sweets, or the ladies did, while I just finished documenting and tasting a few along the way (when I could sneak them away from the sugar Nazi’s)!
I hope this post reminds you that even as we get ready for the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, preparing sales and products, we all have to take time and remember what this season is really about. It’s about celebrating the wonderful provision that God has made for our lives, the loved ones, the family and friends. It’s about pausing for a second and remembering the good, the beautiful, and the amazing in our lives. The little miracles that make this world such a wonderful place to live. So as the families gather, put down the Christmas list, and the wrapping paper, turn off the computer and turn on the love. Hold those you care about close and remember those who can’t be near. Say a prayer of thanks for our nation and our world…and have an awesome time this weekend!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I’ve come to the conclusion that if there would be a place I could compare the Big Island of Hawaii to, it would be the garden of Eden-except thankfully, Hawaii doesn’t have snakes!
