It all started on a green couch…at least that’s what the bio says. But after a year of ‘working’ on your own some of those moments begin to fade, the crisp clear direction begins to get a little fuzzy. So that’s why we started the process that we’ve been in for the past few months. A process of re-awakening our hearts, reconnecting them to the process of our life. A process that has led to this…
WELCOME TO OUR NEW BLOG, and to this sneak peak of what we’ve been working on. A look at the physical process that was a result of our inner process. We are ready to take over the world, to remember our old dreams and bring them back to life, we are ready to take Green Couch Design to a whole ‘nother’ level!
Our process was one of breaking the rut of work and moving back into a place of dreams and creation. From the re-design of the blog and the addition of a new domain www.bringingdesignhome.com to the challenge of taking our products up a notch and delivering a better quality experience for every client and patron. We challenged ourselves to return to our roots and step into our dreams. We’ve been working for months now on new ideas, new dreams, and new goals. It was scary because we took the time to question everything, to drag it all out on the table and say ok…what is all this and where do we want to go with it. When you get to that place it’s one of those ‘come to Jesus’ moments when you know this is going to affect your entire life. Well it has, because here we are, new site, renewed purpose, and a huge future.
We’ve come to realize that we love rural design, at least we love the country and the style and aesthetic of the slow country pace. When that gets juxtaposed against contemporary materials and modern lines it creates this fascinating statement about America as a whole, about who we are as a people. Our resilience, and pride, our strength and our weakness, and ultimately our love of life itself. So with that revelation we have begun pushing our products and design, even our life more fully in that direction. With an eye for materialization and what that says about who we are we have taken the challenge to move our products and design forward; toward that goal of freedom and independence.
We’ve taken our products specifically into a more simple and sustainable direction. Seeking organic and recycled materials, with quality textures and a very tactile experience for the user. We want to encourage a feeling of history, and renovation in our products. It’s always been there but now let’s bring it to the forefront. Let the reclaimed wood speak for itself, let the concrete textures express the rugged endurance of those wearing it. We want to create relationships not only with our products but between our products and the world. Our Etsy shop is still up and running with new additions coming this Thursday…and through the rest of November.
We will still be at www.greencouchdesign.net but that site is now specifically designated for the business side of Green Couch Design. This new blog site, Bringing Design Home, will be the expression of our life. The new blog is still going to feature some of the same fun elements we’ve always had; local gardening, cooking segments, fresh produce and local farmers along with a more narrowed focus on what we like to call “rural design”. We’ll be highlighting sustainable practices by designers in rural areas, show the connections between local producers and the final products in the markets and stores. We long to open minds and hearts to the simple ‘function’ based design of farms and country homes. We want to take you on a journey to discover the beauty of design as everyday life, in our own home and in those across the country. We can’t wait to highlight artists, crafters, and designers, in city’s around us, and around the country that are challenging the stereo types of business, family, and life. We believe in the freedom to be an amazing designer, crafter, and artist while still being an awesome mother, father, husband, or wife, and we are on a mission to prove it through inspiring stories of those living the dream.
As a whole we are thrilled to launch this new adventure and to challenge our comfort zones and pre-conceived notions of life. We hope you’ll join us in the future as we bring design home.
