Stuff: The Beauty of Design

It’s Monday. We know you’re just getting back into the swing of things after a crazy weekend (or maybe that’s just us?), but is there “more” behind what you do everyday? Day in and day out why do you do what you do? Is there purpose? Is there beauty?

Think about it.

Stuff: Snow White’s Loft Apartment

snowwhiteaprt-1

Ok, so the producers of LOST have done it again! We are so hooked on the new ABC Sunday night show Once a Upon a Time. Not only does it feature all of your favorite fairy tale characters from your childhood story books but it’s got all kinds of dramatic twists and turns along with prince charming (named James) in a modern day setting! Personally, I don’t know what MORE you could ask for!

Last Sunday when watching the show we got all caught up in the cool set design for Snow White’s Loft Apartment. It’s got all the industrial brick and mortar you love with plenty of white paint and green friends. We just had to share this beautiful space with you.

Everyday Design: Pencil Top Carvings

Title-Collage

“A PENCIL is just an instrument, an effective tool for scratching measurements onto wood, updating checkbooks and filling in bubbles in tests. Unless it’s in the hands of Dalton Ghetti. The 45-year-old Bridgeport resident has been carving sculptures into pencil lead, without the aid of a magnifying glass, for 25 years.”   -New York Times

“Many artists have used pencils to create beautiful pieces of work – but only one creates stunning masterpieces on the tip of one. Microscopic artist Dalton Ghetti spends up to two-and-a half years painstakingly crafting each handmade piece on the graphite of a pencil. “  – Dalton Ghetti Facebook

Everyday Design: Bamboo Architecture

Big-Bambu-Title-Collage

It’s not often you see bamboo in Oklahoma, but bamboo is quickly becoming one of the most widely used naturally replenishing resources we have in this world. So why wouldn’t it be a major part of great art installations. Meet the Starns, a couple of amazing artists that have made a name for themselves with bamboo.

“Doug and Mike Starn were born in New Jersey in 1961. Identical twins, they work collaboratively with photography and continue defying categorization, effectively combining traditionally separate disciplines such as sculpture, photography, painting, video, and installation.”

-Starn Studio

Working even now the Starns have just finished an exhibition of Big Bambú in Venice, Italy. Here are some images of that work, and a link or two to other works of theirs… Enjoy!

Around every corner and in every nook this beautifully bright and airy shop has everything you could every want to find. One-of-a-kind prints and cards, sustainably minded kitchen accessories like aprons and tea towels, even a beautiful line of men’s and women’s clothing! Welcome to Birdie, our Fresh and Local feature of the month.

Birdie is at it’s most perfect in the spring. Fresh flowers fill the space and Katie, the owner and a fourth generation florist, is always busy creating awe inspiring arrangements and wonderful bouquets for local weddings and other spring events.

“I LOVED growing up in the back of the flower shop. They had a little wedding consultation area at the old shop, where my girlfriends and I would look through all the bridal books and dream up our weddings!  The greenhouses were a pretty magical place too. Looking out on a sea of red poinsettias at Christmas is super pretty.” -Katie
