GCD: Concrete Jewelry in Dwelling Spaces
This past Monday we took a little road trip and dropped off our first batch of concrete jewelry at Dwelling Spaces in Tulsa, OK. We have heard amazing things about this store and it’s owner, Mary Beth, but had no idea just how wonderful it was until we we’re able to visit in person. Not only is the store aesthetic eclectic and fun but it’s got all the heart and soul we could ever ask for from a store carrying our products.
“Meet Mary Beth Babcock, the thirty-nine-year-old geek-chic cheerleader for all things Okie who makes you want to wear state pride like a party dress.” – Oklahoma Today: Mary Beth Babcock named Oklahoma Today’s 2011 Oklahoman of the Year
For the past six year Mary Beth has created not only a store but an art district and culture born out of a genuine passion to support local art and artist.
“Art feeds the soul, so she would feed the art.” - Oklahoma Today: Mary Beth Babcock named Oklahoma Today’s 2011 Oklahoman of the Year
We only spent 30 minutes with Mary Beth (and mostly that was us talking), but instantly we found a friend that loves pushing boundaries and is not afraid to take things to the next level. Her passion is truly contagious and something we hope you’ll support by checking out her wonderful store; Dwelling Spaces.

GCD: 2 Year Anniversary
It’s been two years. Two years since Cale was laid off. Two years since this whole journey started. It’s funny how even now it still feels like we’re holding this little gift in the palm of our hands. It’s so small and beautiful.
We’re so proud of it and yet still a little nervous to give it away.
We do this because we truly love it. We do this because this thing inside of us calls us to it. Somewhere, something inside says we we’re made for this. We we’re made to do this.
And that my friends… is what keeps us going.
STUFF: Glamping?
A friend of mine mentioned this on a recent hiking trip I took. Glamping he said is something he wants to get into with his family. At first I was giving him a hard time, because he is usually the one that wants a fire, and marshmallows and all that “stuff” on a camping trip. I on the other hand have gotten more and more adamant about truly roughing it…I had been until I google’ed this.
So now I’m interested… Glamping huh? According to Glamping Girl
“Glamping truly originated in the early 1900′s, with the popularization of the safari, The word safari is an Arabic verb meaning “to make a journey” and an entire industry was created to cater to the needs of the demanding European and American travellers, looking to bag a trophy and experience adventure in the wilds of Africa. Naturally, the wealthy travellers weren’t eager to part with the creature comforts of home, and instead stayed in luxurious canvas tent lodgings. These tents were fully furnished with beds, luxurious bedding, Persian rugs, antiques and fully staffed with chefs, guides, porters and butlers.
A new trend of glamping has emerged with luxury camping resorts, safari camps, eco-resorts and campgrounds offering every amenity imaginable, from 5 star dining to spas. Manufacturers are catching on, offering designer gadgets and gear to bring style to the wilderness. Regardless of budget, you can enjoy the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.”
GCD: Custom Jewelry Design
We are currently in process of creating close to 250 unique charms for our two craft shows coming up this fall! We are VERY stoked about this but also forgot to mention that we do custom orders! In fact, we LOVE custom orders because they give us a chance to work one-on-one with our customers and provide us an outlet that pushes our ideas and keeps them fresh.
We’ve put together a 4-step process to show you just how easy it can be to design a one-of-a-kind Green Couch Design jewelry piece. Here’s what you can expect from us when you are ready to move forward with your custom order.
PHASE I
STEP 1: Go to our online shop and purchase PHASE I of the “Custom Design” Jewelry listing. Leave us any initial design ideas/suggestions you would like us to start with in the comment section when you check out. If you have images in mind, send us a convo through Etsy with attached images or send them to cale@greencouchdesign.net.
STEP 2: We will send you initial design concepts in a hand-rendered illustration format. Once the first round of design(s) are sent you can make two rounds of edits. We will also include the additional cost to build each design with each illustration presented. This will ensure that there are no surprises or additional costs (outside of shipping) when you purchase PHASE II.

Recycle This: Lockers
Recycling isn’t only about plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Sometimes it’s a little bigger than that… Sometimes it’s about Lockers.
It all happened one day when I was browsing Craigslist and found these wonderful lockers, in their original school bus yellow color, for a righteous steal of $60.oo. After that it was out to the shop for a little TLC and some white paint. We just happened to have some old pine beams from the barn we were deconstructing and I used those as the shelving boards, a few lag bolts and some heavy lifting… Viola an entertainment center that our friends have been drooling over. Pardon the TV, someday this farm couple will step into the 20th century with a nice big flat screen.
LIFE: Stress, Family, Baby Showers…
Last weekend I (Meg) took a little girls road trip with my mom, Aunt, and Grandma for a family baby shower in Arkansas. I’ve never seen a couple more excited to bring a little person into this world. It was a truly a wonderful time to get away, spend time laughing at “when I was a kid” stories and celebrating what life is all about…living.
We have been so busy lately with trying to juggle Green Couch Design blog, graphic design services, products and life (oh, yes that thing too!) it seems we’ve forgotten to take time out to remember why we wondered down this crazy path of self-employment.
Everyday Design: Colored Pencil Sculptures
When I was a child my favorite medium was colored pencils. I don’t know why I jumped past crayons at a young age and then went back to markers in college, but from 8-16 years, it was all colored pencils. This months ‘everyday design‘ post is all about color, and colored pencils. One of those wonderful little tools we creatives love to use. But here it is in a completely new form…
